The Benefits Of Swimming Horses
Swimming is an excellent form of exercise as well as a great fitness training aid for all disciplines. They are able to exercise without supporting their own body weight. It builds muscle tone and improves fitness without putting pressure or strain on the back and joints. It is advantageous in improving the cardio vascular system and:
  • Improves overall fitness as all the muscles, tendons and ligaments are evenly worked
  • Improves Respiration
  • Improves Circulation
  • Increases flexibility
  • Improves balance by teaching the horse to swim in a straight line
  • Horses can be thoroughly exercised without the concussion that hard ground causes
  • Sessions can be built up to gradually increase fitness
Horse swimming pool
It allows horses to relax or rehabilitate without the severity of impact exercise. Horses out of work through injury can very quickly lose muscle tone but swimming can help maintain condition and physical fitness.
Swimming can offer a welcome change to their usual training programme and can freshen up tired or stale horses that may have been hard in training.
